Up, Up and Away ... Again!

Greetings and a belated happy new year to all of you.

 Jim and I are in the midst of planning a new adventure. This time we are headed to Spain, Portugal and Morocco with a short stop on Gibraltar as we pass by. We will be travelling by plane, train, ferry, bus and car at various times as we move about. We will also be travelling independently, with friends, and on an organized tour for parts of this adventure. We will be spending some time on our own and lots of time with various sets of friends along the way. We are blessed to have so many people in our lives who also embrace the love of travel.

 The places we will visit are all new to us. So far, we have visited almost 80 countries worldwide and this trip will add four more. We have recently become aware of an organization called the Century Travel Club in which the members have all visited over 100 countries. Maybe one day, we too will be able to join this unique organization.

 We are very excited to embark on this newest journey and hope that you will join us along the way.

Friday, March 13, 2020 What a day it has been!! First thing this morning, our friends from Australia arrived at our hotel in Casablanca. It was great to see them all – Barb and John Hurst and Sue and David Morgan. It has been about a year and a half since our paths last crossed. We met in the lobby and proceeded to the hotel restaurant for a coffee and chat. After the initial hellos, it did not take long for the conversation to turn to Covid-19 Virus and its impact on our worlds. During the time they were in the air, the Australian government put out a notice to avoid all unnecessary international travel. Too little, too late. They were already in transit and now, here we all are. At the same time, the Canadian government also issued a statement the same message: avoid all unnecessary international travel. Morocco - What a Wonderful Place to Be

Friday, March 6, 2020 We arose in Gibraltar and went to bed in Morocco. There were many steps in between. We bid farewell to Gibraltar right after breakfast – packing done, luggage in the car, passports at the ready. And we were off! Or so we thought … until the barrier came down to block the only road that leads to Spain. You may recall that the only way onto Gibraltar is to drive or walk or bike across the runway of the Gibraltar airport. Well, there was a plane due to land and the barricade came down just as we approached the runway. We turned off the engine and settled in to wait for the plane. Within five minutes, there it was, flashing across our line of vision as it made its way toward the end of the runway. We waited but the barrier did not arise again. That is because the terminal is on the other side of the road which means that after a plane lands it has to stop, turn around and taxi back across the road to the terminal. And that it did. Tuesday, February 11, 2020/Wednesday, February 12, 2020 Life was remarkably calm at our home on Tuesday morning. Jim went out for breakfast with a friend while I had a bit of much-needed sleep and then watch the Ellen Show. Late in the morning, we both tackled our last minute packing and were soon ready to go to the airport. One more errand at the bank and we were set. Our taxi driver (we always use Waterloo Taxi to and from the airport – reasonably prices, efficient and reliable) had transported us before and was able to tell us quite a bit about ourselves. His memory was somewhat uncanny and very accurate. It was an interesting rode to say the least. Upon arrival at the airport, we experienced a very smooth check-in and security check. We even had ample time to have lunch in the British Airways lounge. And then, it was up, up and away. We were off on our next adventure.
